Well my wife has a 7 week old black lab puppy coming over for the weekend on a "home visit" from the local humane society. The lady she knows there says she is 99% sure the dog is purebread. We have 2 older lab mixes- 11 and 12 so it might not be a bad time to get a puppy. I started duck hunting 6 years ago and have a 7 year old son who I hope to get started in a few years. I don't take our other dogs with me but if we end up with this puppy I would definately want to be able to bring him along.

My question is what books would be helpful for me to start training the dog. I have never trained a dog for hunting. I would also be willing to pay to take the dog to a trainer. Does anyone know a trainer within an hour or two of West Branch? Also, what age do you typically start training a dog like this? I live on a small lake so I would have an area for water training but I have never introduced a dog to guns and would want to do whatever I could so the dog wasn't "gun shy". Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey guys I just picked up a bowtech insanity this past week and am currently looking for arrows, the problem is my options are a little limited being that my bow currently draws 84 pounds. I have a 30 inch draw and it seems that most companies dont have an arrow available past 78 pounds 29 inches. Someone suggested the easton fmj dangerous game but I think I would want something a little lighter that would obviously still be above ibo weight but be able to take advantage of a lot of that speed my bow is producing. Yes I know I don't need to shoot that much weight,(I've been hearing the criticism since I bought this thing) I used to shoot with my uncles 100 lb bowtech samson, so 84 pounds is a breeze to pull. I'm just looking for a little constructive info on what to shoot, thanks guys

Unless you have never read my posts...I will state plainly that I pull many of the "rights and wrongs" from the Bible. Though...there are really not a whole lot of things called out as right or wrong.

If I toss out the Bible...what makes it "wrong" for me to kill someone? Hmmm? It may be illegal...but why would it be wrong? Other animals do it all the time.

I'm new to the sportsman forums but I am active on ar15.com's Michigan section and migunowners.org. I wanted to share this important information with the hunting community about eliminating the permit to purchase handguns (and long guns <30" in overall length) system.

HB 5225 is in the Judiciary committee in the House. This bill would end the purchase permit system in Michigan. It is endorsed by the NRA and they are actively lobbying for it. The vote is on 5/24/2012 at 10am.

Click here for NRA's opinion on the bill
http://www.nraila.org/legislation/st...next-week.aspx

This bill if amended and passed would ELIMINATE permits to purchase a pistol with destruction of past records.

How can you help?

Click below to send a message of support to the Judiciary committee which will be voting on the bill on 5/24/2012 at 10am.
