I'm looking for a good yote load for my Winchester .270. I'm looking to salvage the hide as best as possible mind you. Any suggestions? Thanks guys!

Maybe try the Managed Recoil loads by Remington. I believe they're 115 gr. They're still gonna do some damage though.

I believe Federal has a 110g round available. If you are handloading or know someone that does you could work up a load with Barnes Varmint Grenades. Supposed to be be highly frangible to do just what you want.

Sounds a lot like squirrel hunting with a 10 gauge. I know this is not what you wanted to hear, but it's the truth.

Get a 22-250 or if you think you might hunt at night, consider a .22 mag. or a shotgun.

Hmm what about a .223? Thanks guys, but now I'm considering a new gun entirely. What's better, .223 or 22-250 and why?
Thanks again!

Now your comparing Blonde's and Brunettes.

Both are really good choices.

Default Both

I have both and do a lot of target practicing with them and every time I go out to hunt yotes I grab my 22-250 I love that gun.

It has never failed me, and does not do that much damage to the skin although it will tear them up on the in side.

Dont get me wrong the 223 will also do a great job.

Just my 2 cents

good luck

Awesome guys, thank you! I think I'm going to wait for the Gun and knife show to come my way again and see what I can find there. Good hunting!

You might what to ask yourself if you could potentially run into a fox or coon out there while calling too????

That's the one thing most new hunters don't think about and then they end up blowing a perfectly good fox in half to be left in the woods.

Don't limit yourself to just two or three calibers. Go get a book on ballistics and downrange performance and study up.

Here's a link to some ballistic tables so you can compare trajectory, velocity and energy.

I hand load for accuracy but Remington's Managed recoil loads are hard to beat. The 115 opens up real nice on deer but may be perfect for thin skinned predators.

Default Just a Thought

....something to keep in mind....Hornady TAP (or other similar personal defense rounds) are based on the same Frag technology of varmint grenades. If you can find some .270 personal defense ammo, it might be your best bet.

So do I, but by the time he invests in all the hardware needed he could buy a new 22-250.

That's an option too. From what I've found its expensive, often hard to find and doesn't pattern very well. Plus everyone need more than just one rifle. Especialy if they aren't married yet. One less argument down the road.
