Slow morning led to jump shooting on the youth hunt a couple years ago.. I was a guide and a retriver... had to get down to my boxers for a Gadwall retrieve.

That's exactly why you carry a camping towel in your blind bag. After this thread I realized fishing line takes up less space then a camp towel!

My retrieval story comes from sitting at a spot to pass shoot birds flying up and down a small river. We would send a person down the river in a kayak and try to sneak up on them or push them down. Ended up making an amazing shot on a woodie which then ended up on the other side of the river. I was going to wait for buddy in kayak to retrieve bird, but my buddy on the bank with me said we couldn't wait. He stripped down and swam getting the bird and just after he gets back the kayak was in site.

a short spinning rod with 20 lb works well
the best lure for retreiving i found is a husky jerk with the bill broke off and a treble or two snelled in front of that.
if you cast over the bird it will snag one of the treble in front of the lure everytime.
